Gheorghe Iliescu-Calinesti was born in the village of Calinesti, county Arges, Romania, on July 14th 1932. He graduated from the Nicolae Grigorescu Academy of Fine Arts in 1959, where he studied sculpture under Professor Corneliu Medrea.
The Sculptor begain to participate in Romanian and international events in 1961, and has exhibited in Belgium, Italy, USA, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Spain, Austria, Finland, Russia, Germany, Croatia, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Canada, Sweden, the Netherlands, Britain, Denmark and Slovenia.
