Born September 14, 1938, Bucharest; died December 4th 2000, Paris.
1990-2000 the function of general director of the Romanian Peasant Museum. 1957 - 1959 he followed the courses of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Bucharest University, 1959-1962 the Technique School of Architecture. 1962-1965 The Pedagogic Institute (Drawing department). He made his first appearance in public as painter in the year 1965, at the Reunion of artists and literates of Youth of the Plastic Artists Union. He was member of the group Poiana Marului (the Break of the Apple), member of the group Prolog.
Solo or group Exhibitions at Richard Demarco Gallery (1970-1971), College Gallery of the Birmingham University, Sigi Krauss Gallery in Covent Garden (1971), Compass Gallery in Glasgow (1971), Richard Demarco Gallery (1976), Generative Art Gallery, London (1976). The painter Horia Bernea was a member of the Historic Monuments Committee and of the Reflection Group for the Church Innovation. Horia Bernea died in the evening of December 4th 2000, in Paris, after he suffered a difficult surgical intervention on open heart. His body was brought in the country and buried at the Mavrogheni Church, close to the Romanian Peasant Museum.

The Prize of the Romanian Cultural Foundation. The Prize of the Group for Social Dialog (2000). The National Order "For Merritt" in degree of the Big Cross given by the Romanian President (2000).
